Driving a taxi in Wallonia: which rules apply and does TaxiBuddy work there?
Not yet. TaxiBuddy is built around the Flemish taxi rules and Chiron today, and Wallonia reformed its taxi sector in December 2024 with its own rules and without Chiron. Below you can read what applies in Wallonia and how to stay informed.

Which law applies to taxis in Wallonia?
The new Walloon taxi decree and the implementing order of the Walloon Government have been in force since 1 December 2024. They replace the 2007 rules. Operators were given a transition period to convert their old authorisation into a licence. That period has ended, with a tolerance until 31 March 2026 to complete the steps.
Do I have to connect to Chiron in Wallonia?
No. Wallonia has no central ride database like Chiron. Chiron only applies to operators with a Flemish licence.
Which equipment is required in a Walloon taxi?
That depends on the type of service:
- A rank taxi runs with a taximeter or another device approved by the Walloon Government with the same functions.
- A street taxi works exclusively through an electronic intermediation service, so through an app or platform.
Which type you need depends on how you get your rides.
Is my Flemish licence valid in Wallonia?
No. A Flemish licence for paid passenger transport (IBP) is valid throughout Flanders, but not in Wallonia or Brussels. If you want to work from Wallonia, you need a Walloon licence.
When can I use TaxiBuddy in Wallonia?
There is no date yet. We first have to build a start without Chiron credentials and check how TaxiBuddy fits the Walloon rules for rank and street taxis. Do you drive in Wallonia and want to know as soon as we are ready? Send us a message and we will let you know.
