Chiron credentials

Chiron test or production: which credentials do I need?

Both, but not at the same time. First your test credentials from chiron-acc.vlaanderen.be, which we use to check that the connection works. Then your production credentials from chiron.vlaanderen.be, and only those put your rides in the official ride database.

They are two separate pairs of a Client ID and a Secret. They look identical and they are not interchangeable. Below you will find how to tell them apart and what happens if you mix them up.

The two environments

Why are there two sets of credentials?

Chiron runs on two separate environments. In the test environment, the Flemish government checks whether your software talks to the database correctly. In the production environment, your rides are recorded for real. You register on each environment separately, so each one gives you its own Client ID and its own Secret.

Test credentials

First
Where you get them
chiron-acc.vlaanderen.be
What they are for
To check that the connection works. TaxiBuddy sends ten test messages, five departures and five arrivals.
What happens to your rides
No real ride is recorded. Anything sent to the test environment counts for nothing.

Production credentials

Then
Where you get them
chiron.vlaanderen.be
What they are for
To take your business live. These are the credentials we use for every real ride.
What happens to your rides
Every ride goes to the ride database automatically, at the start and at the end.

You only request your production credentials once the test has passed. If you were already using other taxi software and are therefore already connected to Chiron, you skip the test phase and only need your production credentials.

Telling them apart

How do you know which ones you are looking at?

A Client ID or a Secret tells you nothing by itself. Both are strings of characters with no visible difference. You recognise them by where they came from.

  • Look at the address you were signed in to. If it contains acc, they are test credentials.
  • In the Chiron portal you find them top right under your name, via Your details. That screen always shows the credentials of the portal you are signed in to at that moment.
  • If you registered twice, you have two pairs. The pair from chiron-acc belongs to the test, the pair from chiron.vlaanderen.be belongs to production.
  • Not sure? Sign in again at chiron.vlaanderen.be and take your credentials from there. Those are your production credentials for certain.
Entered the wrong ones

What happens if you enter the wrong ones?

Nothing you cannot undo. TaxiBuddy checks every pair against the environment it belongs to before anything is stored. If it does not match, you get a message straight away and stay on the same screen.

  • Your rides cannot end up in the test environment by accident. Test credentials are refused on the production screen immediately.
  • You lose nothing. As long as the check fails, nothing is stored and you simply enter the right pair.
  • You do not have to start over. Your application stays where it was and you can try as often as you need.
  • You cannot go wrong silently. Without a successful check against the production environment, your account is not taken live.
Putting it right

How do you get the right credentials?

Three steps, about ten minutes. You need your eID or itsme to sign in.

  1. Go to the right portal

For the test that is chiron-acc.vlaanderen.be, for production chiron.vlaanderen.be. Sign in with the same method as last time.

  2. Copy your Client ID and Secret

Top right under your name you will find Your details. Lost your Secret? Click Renew credentials. The old values expire at that moment.

  3. Enter them again in TaxiBuddy

On the same screen where it went wrong. We put them to Chiron right away, so you see immediately whether it worked.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about your credentials

No. These are two separate environments, each with its own registration. Your test credentials work only on the test environment, your production credentials only on the real database.

No. The ten test messages only serve to check the connection. They never reach the ride database and do not count as a recorded ride.

No. If you were already using other software and therefore already have production credentials, you skip the test. You enter your production credentials straight away and your connection carries on.

No, skip that field. We work with a Client ID and a Secret. The public key is only needed if you work with your own cryptographic keys.

Yes. You register per company, with a separate email address for each one. So every company gets its own Client ID and Secret, per environment.

Let us know and we will update them right away. As long as the old values are in place, your rides do not reach Chiron.

With TaxiBuddy

We check your connection before you go live

You enter your credentials, we send the mandatory test messages and show you the result straight away. If something fails, you see where it fails instead of an error code.
