Chiron compliance

One inspection is enough. Is your Chiron log in order?

A gap starts with a fine. On repeat, your licence is at stake.

Since November 2020 every licensed taxi sends its rides into Chiron in real time. Police zones can read the database directly. See below what a gap in your logging can cost you, and how to fix it within one working day.

What is Chiron

Since 1 November 2020, every taxi ride in Flanders is connected directly to the authorities

Chiron is the central ride database of the Flemish Department of Mobility and Public Works (MOW). Anyone holding a permit for individual paid passenger transport (IBP) is required to forward every ride automatically: at the moment of departure and again at the moment of arrival. No weekly batch, no Excel export afterwards.

What gets sent to Chiron per ride

  • Your KBO number as operator
  • The badge of the driver behind the wheel
  • Rounded GPS coordinates of the start and end point
  • The price the customer actually pays

Police zones have direct access to Chiron. During a roadside inspection, the officer can review up to 24 hours back in the database in real time.

Chiron inspection

How an inspection unfolds

Four steps every taxi operator should know, because one missing ride costs more than you might expect.

  1. Chiron log requested

The inspector queries your rides directly in Chiron. During a roadside check, police can review up to 24 hours back in real time.

  2. Missing rides become an official report

Every ride that was not forwarded or was logged incorrectly is recorded and entered into an official report.

  3. €100 to €500 on-the-spot collection

Per recorded infraction, payable on the spot. Not per ride, but per infraction the inspector establishes.

  4. Suspension or criminal action

On repeat, your municipality can suspend the operating licence. For serious infringements, the fine rises to €10,000, with imprisonment of 8 days to 3 months (art. 33 Taxi Decree).

The consequences

What a missing ride can really cost you

What happens if a ride is not correctly in Chiron?

  • On-the-spot collection of €100 to €500 per established infraction, not per ride
  • Official report to the Public Prosecutor on refusal or dispute
  • Official finding kept in your operator file at the municipality
  • On repeat: suspension or withdrawal of the IBP licence
  • For serious infringements: fine up to €10,000 and imprisonment (art. 33 Taxi Decree)

An administrative fine is hard to avoid.

At 3 missed rides per month for a fleet of 2 to 10 vehicles, first finding.

€100 to €500per infraction, several possible at one check
  • One check can establish several infractions at once, €100 to €500 each
  • Recorded by a police zone with direct Chiron access
  • Entry on your operator file at the municipality
  • Higher inspection risk on every subsequent finding

With TaxiBuddy this entire table no longer applies to you.

Every ride goes to Chiron automatically, at the right moment and in the right format. No manual work, no forgotten rides. For your fleet, from €59 per month.

The amounts are indicative and not legal advice. An on-the-spot collection is €100 to €500 per established infraction, not per ride. Operating without a valid licence or serious infringements lead to prosecution before the police court, with a fine of €500 to €10,000 and possible imprisonment (art. 33 Taxi Decree of 29 March 2019).

Does this sound familiar?

These patterns cost you time, money and sleep

The daily frustrations every licensed taxi operator in Flanders runs into.

  • Hours lost to manual entry

Every evening, retyping rides from sticky notes, screenshots and the driver's memory. Time you can spend better.

  • Logging mistakes carry your name

One wrong date, one missing GPS point, one ride forwarded too late: enough for an official report.

  • Stress at every roadside check

Are you sure the past 24 hours are correctly in Chiron? On the road it is too late to find out.

  • Fragmented ride administration

Excel sheets, paper run sheets, three different apps. No overview and no audit trail.

  • Drivers who forget rides

Rarely on purpose. Yet it is your KBO number that ends up on the official report.

  • No real-time visibility on the fleet

Who drove which ride? Was the price right? Too often you only find out at the end of the month.

The solution

TaxiBuddy, Chiron-compliant from the first ride

  • One click during an inspection: full Chiron log in PDF or CSV
  • Works on iOS and Android, no extra hardware in the vehicles
  • Linked end-to-end to your IBP licence, KBO number and driver badge
  • On a Chiron outage the app buffers locally and forwards automatically as soon as the database is reachable again
Frequently asked questions about Chiron

What Flemish taxi operators ask us most often

Chiron is the central ride database of the Flemish Department of Mobility and Public Works (MOW). Every taxi ride under an IBP licence must be forwarded to it in real time, at the moment of departure and at the moment of arrival.

For every operator with a permit for individual paid passenger transport (IBP) in Flanders, yes. Operators still under an old taxi or VVB licence only fall under the Chiron obligation once they transition to IBP.

TaxiBuddy is taxi software for Belgian taxi operators with built-in Chiron registration. You log each ride once in the app and TaxiBuddy forwards it to Chiron automatically, in real time. You need no separate system and no expensive on-board hardware. It runs from one driver up to a full fleet and keeps rides, shifts and billing in the same place.

Outages are rare, but they happen. Police know that too. In that case TaxiBuddy stores every ride locally and forwards them automatically as soon as Chiron is reachable again. You don't have to do anything yourself.

During a roadside inspection the police can review up to 24 hours back in Chiron in real time. During a licence review the municipality can go further back in your file.

Your KBO number, the badge of the driver, rounded GPS coordinates of the start and end point, and the price the customer pays. For pre-agreed pricing, the system also sends a reservation message.

OV-taxi rides are not subject to Chiron, they go through the VIA app. It is still wise to keep your contract with De Lijn digitally at hand during an inspection to avoid any discussion.

Yes. TaxiBuddy handles the Chiron connection end-to-end for you. Most operators are up and running within one working day.

On a first finding: an on-the-spot collection of €100 to €500 per established infraction. On repeat: suspension of your operating licence by the municipality. For operating without a licence or serious infringements: prosecution before the police court with a fine of €500 to €10,000 and imprisonment of 8 days to 3 months (art. 33 Taxi Decree).

Avoid the fine. Be ready for the next inspection.

We guide you personally through the Chiron connection. Most fleets are operational within one working day.
